
Jazmine Sullivan is a native of in and brought up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam was Jazmine's mother. She is an ex-backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her a position as curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved into the historic mansion. She is a 2005 graduate from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was a vocal music major. Sullivan began singing in the school's chorus as a contralto and then she joined the adult choir a few years after that. Sullivan was not exposed secular music initially. "I started singing solos at church and a person asked me to commit to a gospel record at age 11. However, I was not ready to go through with it," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's was hosting a contest for kids in major cities I had the opportunity to sing 'Accept Whatever God Gives' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". She sang along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday in the year 13. Sullivan At the age of 15 was signed for the first time to Jive Records. At the age of 15 the label signed her to Jive Records. She recorded an entire album at Jive Records however it was never released. Sullivan was then removed off the record label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott she produced a number of the tracks from her debut, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
